POSITION SUMMARY                                                                                                                                    

The Human Resource Generalist handles the administration of the day-to-day operations of the human resources functions and duties.  Responsibilities include being responsible for all functions of payroll.  Performs work with a high degree of confidentiality.  The HR Generalist carries out responsibilities in the following functional areas:  HRIS, recruiting, employee relations, payroll, benefits, administration, reporting, answering questions and supporting employees.   

 

KEY ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS                                                                                                      

  • Reports to Chief Human Resource Officer
  • Works closely with CHRO, HR team, employees, and vendors.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES                                                                                                                    

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

To perform this job successfully an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.  Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.  

 

  • Oversees, trains and serves as a back-up to Payroll.  Reviews payroll runs before submission. 
  • Balances the bi-weekly payroll for OBI and submits the 401(k) details to Heartland.
  • Performs customer service function by answering employee requests and questions. 
  • Maintain personnel files, including filing documents into Laser Fiche.
  • Reviewing FML cases for proper administration and processing. Prepare FML packets as needed, including coordinating documentation and follow-up.  Keeps individual employee FML calendars up-to-date.  Review and apply pay pieces to FML – PTO, maternity or paternity benefit, or short-term disability.
  • Participates as needed in interviews with hiring managers/teams.  Assists in guidance and selection.
  • Prepares and communicates the Dashboard Report.
  • Meets with new hires at New Employee Orientation.  Reviewing benefits, resources, and culture.
  • Performs recruiting efforts for specific level of positions. Serves as a back-up on recruiting, and in-person on-boarding new hires.    
  • Assist in preparing annual Affirmative Action Plans. 
  • Works with vendors, such as Heartland Retirement Plan Services, Paycom, IBIS, etc.
  • Manages and follows-through on various HR projects, gathers data for analyzing with HR metrics and reporting including surveys and reports. 
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.  Strong interpersonal skills to interact with colleagues.
  • Ability to use Microsoft Outlook programs.
  • Must be organized, accurate, thorough, and able to monitor work for quality.
  • Must be able to prioritize and plan work activities as to use time efficiently. 
  • Must be dependable, able to follow instructions, respond to management direction, and must be able to improve performance through management feedback.

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE                                                                                                                     

  • Associate Arts Degree; 2-4 years’ experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience in processing payrolls.
