Do you need a feel-good, self-care break with your community? Come take a pause and de-stress for an afternoon participatory workshop with song leader Lyndsey Scott. All ages + all voices welcome! — you definitely don't have to "be a singer" to reap the profound physiological benefits of deep breath + relaxation that community singing generates. (i.e. If you like to sing in the car or in the shower — you're a perfect candidate!) We will do some simple warm-ups and then we will learn and sing simple songs with uplifting themes, taught "call and echo" on the spot. You'll leave with your cup filled up and feeling lighter! Lyndsey Scott is the 2024-25 Grant Wood Fellow in the University of Iowa School of Music where she teaches "Community Singing as Collective Power." In her practice as a multimedia artist, songleader, and ritualist, she explores community singing as a technology of belonging and strategy for liberation and transformation. She composes and records mantra music with a beat for the national community singing movement.
