SUMMARY:Auditons for "Proof"
DESCRIPTION:Auditions for "Proof" by the Peace Pipe Players at the Maquoketa Art Experience.\n\nAUDITIONS\n\nThursday\, October 5th @ 7pm\n\nSaturday\, October 7th @ 3pm\n\nPPP Bldg / 400 N Eliza / Maquoketa\, Iowa\n\n\n\nNEEDED\n\n2 Females - Ages 25-35\, 1 Male Ages - 25-35\, 1 Male - Age 50+\n\n\n\nAUDITION REQUIREMENTS\n\nPlease be ready to read cold from the script at the audition.\n\n\n\nPERFORMANCES\n\nEvenings Friday 11/3 & Saturday 11/4\, Matinee Sunday 11/5 \n\nMaquoketa Art Experience\n\n\n\nSYNOPSIS\n\nThe play concerns Catherine\, the daughter of Robert\, a recently deceased mathematical genius in his fifties and professor at the University of Chicago\, and her struggle with mathematical genius and mental illness. Catherine had cared for her father through a lengthy mental illness. Upon Robert's death\, his ex-graduate student Hal discovers a paradigm-shifting proof about prime numbers in Robert's office. The title refers both to that proof and to the play's central question: Can Catherine prove the proof's authorship? Along with demonstrating the proof's authenticity\, the daughter also finds herself in a relationship with Hal. Throughout\, the play explores Catherine's fear of following in her father's footsteps\, both mathematically and mentally and her desperate attempts to stay in control.\n\n\n\nENHANCED READING\n\n"Proof" by David Auburn will be performed as an enhanced reading. An enhanced reading is a type of Reader's Theater. Actors sit on chairs/stools and read their scripts which rest on music stands. The story is enhanced by occasional props\, music\, and perhaps simple staging elements to give a sense of place.\n\nHave you been on the fence for auditioning for a show because you feared the memorization? You are not alone! \n\nAn enhanced reading is the opportunity to work on developing a character and sharing it with an audience without the worry of memorization.\n\nIn addition\, the actor need not worry about stage directions as far as where to be on the stage.\n\nThe 4 weeks of rehearsal will be devoted mostly to character development\, character dynamics\, and delivery. The characters in "Proof" are human\, relatable\, and interesting. I look forward to telling this story!
